As a small business owner, I've learned a lot about all aspects of business, not just the service I provide. I'm the marketing director, accountant, website designer, and more.

Today I'm wearing my website/marketing hat, and one thing I need to do as a website person is Search Engine Optimization (or SEO). It's a really important area for anyone to learn about who has a website, and I'm still learning. But I know that blogs and search terms are important. Today, I'm going to cheat a little and just list a bunch of search terms that might interest people who will be potential clients.

Search term & key words: Baby shower, baby bottle, breast pump, supplementing, breast milk, infant formula, breastfeeding, diaper. Reproduction,  pregnancy, childbirth, first second third trimester, baby, infant, newborn. Lactation, lactation consultant, pain with breastfeeding, low supply, increase milk supply, latch. Oversupply, donating milk, freezing milk, milk storage times, thawing milk, warming milk.

How much should my baby be eating, infant sleep patterns, when should my baby sleep through the night, fussy baby, when to pump to go back to work, how much milk should I make. Tongue tie, should breast-feeding hurt, how long should should I breastfeed, should baby eat from both breasts or one, cracked nipples, painful nipples. Is this mastitis, mastitis symptoms, plugged duct, milk, redness on breast, painful breasts, engorgement. Baby not gaining weight, breast feeding positions, positioning baby.

Baby acne, is this a rash, is my baby eating enough, foods to eat to increase supply, foods to avoid when breastfeeding. Can I drink alcohol when breastfeeding, can I drink coffee when breastfeeding? Sex drive after having a baby, anxiety after having a baby, postpartum depression, is this normal, am I doing this right?

Infant development, 1 week old, 2 week old baby, 1 month old baby, 2 month old, 3 months, 4 months, 5 months, 6 months, first foods, solid foods. Distracted baby, nursing strike, fussy baby, is baby hungry or tired, diaper changes, is this baby poop normal?

Happy baby, how to be a happy and confident mom, mother, mama, mommy, dad, father, daddy, parent, caregiver, care giver. Love, baby smiles, baby giggles, milky grins.

Zionsville, Indianpolis, Carmel, Fishers, Westfield, Lebanon, West Lafayette, Avon, Whitestown, Broad Ripple, Fountain Square, Irvington, Nobelsville, Greenwood, Plainfield, IN. Community North Hospital, St Vincent Women's Hospital, IU North Hospital, Indiana hospitals with labor and delivery, NICU, IU Methodist Hospital, Pediatrician, Ob/gyn

Breastfeeding twins, delivering twins, expecting twins, breastfeeding adopted baby, adoption, surrogacy, breast feeding with PCOS, breast feeding with diabetes, breast feeding after breast reduction, breastfeeding after breast augmentation, inverted nipples, flat nipples, breast cancer, thyroid condition, gestational diabetes, overweight, obesity, medications and breastfeeding, supplements and breastfeeding, vitamin D and breast milk, fertility problems and breastfeeding, fertility treatments,

Phew! That's a lot of search terms. I hope this helps someone find my page, and reach out to me (or another IBCLC) to help them answer their questions and concerns. It's always better to talk to a real person (and someone qualified) than doing a google search.

If you stumbled upon this post, feel free to check out the rest of my website. If you're looking for help (whether you're pregnant, have a baby, or are looking for a friend) feel free to reach out! I love connecting with people and would be happy to talk to you.

Indiana Breastfeeding Conference

I'm at a wonderful breastfeeding conference today! The keynote speaker is Kimberly Seals Allers speaking about reducing racial disparities in breastfeeding rates. So inspiring!

My good friend, Aimbriel, and are inspired to work on this with Moms and Dads classes / discussion groups (with different skin tones!). I love it because it can be a conversation about parenting, and how much we have in common, even if we come from different backgrounds.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the conference today!

Breastfeeding Books for Expectant Moms

One of my best friends is expecting her first baby in October! My friends and I threw a shower for her in our home town.

Ashley’s questions for me over the weekend what breastfeeding book she should read before baby arrives. I had to think about it, because I don’t have one specific book that I recommend. There are so many out there, that I haven’t read them all.

One thing I have found is that it’s helpful when the book has a little humor in it. Breastfeeding can be hard, but it’s important to remember to relax and enjoy. Too many facts and figures and horror stories can really freak out a mom. And really you want me to be relaxed and confident.

By the end of the book, I want an expectant mom to think “I can do this. It might not be completely wonderful and perfect, but my body and baby is capable.” Also I want her to know enough basics that she knows when to ask for help, and some basic strategies that will help make her successful.

One book that I’ve read and fits this bill is “The Food of Love: The Easier Way to Breastfeed Your Baby” by Kate Evans. It’s just a cartoonist’s look at motherhood. It’s by no means comprehensive, but it covers the basics, in a fun and entertaining way.

What about you? Did you have any books that you read during pregnancy that helped you feel more prepared for breastfeeding (and just having a baby in general)?

Also, did you have any books that you DIDN’T like? (Maybe books that were a little judgmental, or had you feeling paranoid while you read it?) I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Gift Certificates for Baby Shower

I'm happy to announce that I now offer gift certificates on my website!

If you know someone in your life that would love to have breastfeeding or infant support, this would be a great shower gift. If 1 - 4 visits are out of your price range, you can ask girlfriends to buy separate smaller gift cards that can be pooled so your friend can have a full visit or multiple visits!

Click around and give me any thoughts you have on different gift card sizes that might be good denominations, or other feedback. Also, I would love to find a way for moms to register for my services on their baby registry. Let me know if you have any ideas on how I can use technology to make that possible!
