Many women worry about their milk supplies being too low, and struggle to increase their milk production. Other have the opposite problem and have an oversupply.

At first, having too much milk might sound like a good thing. Lots of moms would love to have a big stash of milk in the freezer, and the idea of having more than they need sounds fantastic!

However, having an over-supply has it's downsides. Moms with oversupply can have engorgement, which can be very uncomfortable. They are also at higher risk of plugged ducts and mastitis, if milk isn't fully drained from the breast.

If you suspect an oversupply, it's a great idea to reach out to a local lactation consultant or lactation counselor (I know a great one!) to get personalized advice.

Sometimes it's helpful to use a breast-pump to remove some milk and relieve engorgement, but you have to be careful not to stimulate more milk production in the process. It can relieve pain to use warmth on breasts before feeding baby, and apply cold packs after feedings (to reduce inflammation).
