My emotions during this stay-at-home order have ranged from to joy in canceling plans to play with my kid and read more to sadness and fatigue from being overwhelmed with a bored toddler.

How have you been holding up emotionally?

I find that I do much better when I have work to do outside the home, and home-health-care is allowed even with social distancing restrictions! So send your friends my way if they’re having any breastfeeding challenges.

Video consultation available as well!

Adoptive Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding without birthing. Adoptive breastfeeding. Induced lactation. There are many ways to describe the process of nursing an adopted baby.

Why do moms choose to breastfeed adopted babies? Over the last few months, I have been working with a mom who chose this, and it has been a beautiful process to watch!

1. Skin to skin - One reason to nurse an adopted baby is that the daily skin-to-skin with baby has so so many benefits for both moms and babies. Many people know of skin-to-skin or kangaroo care for babies right after birth or while babies are in the NICU, but it's beneficial as babies grow as well!

2. Human milk has many benefits! Even if adopting moms don't obtain a full milk supply, the milk they can provide their babies is priceless!

3. The always wanted to nurse their child. If a couple can not have biological children for some reason, they may still want as many of the experiences as biological parents, including how they feed their baby!

4. Each person is different and may have different reasons to want to nurse their baby.

Are you considering adoptive breastfeeding? Contact me if you're in the Indianapolis area and want someone to help you through the process!

How to Breastfeed in Public

“Anywhere you can sit, you can nurse!” That's my motto!

Including this giant chair at the you-pick apple orchard!

Nursing in public is easy. Just find a comfortable spot. Use a nursing cover, or skip the cover if you're comfortable with that.

I do some of both. I like to be somewhat modest, but in the end, when my baby is hungry, I just find a place to sit and feed him.

Nursing in public helps to other moms know they can breastfeed without fear or shame.

Stress Relief for Moms

I was stressed out this week. I decided to go on a walk at the park to help my baby sleep. It was beautiful and helped me relax and brought me peace and joy.

Goal: Moment of nature at least once a week!

I love the Eagle Creek park bird sanctuary walking path. Such a pretty view of the water and lots of beautiful folliage and chirping birds.
